Turkmenistan: official EV fleets are JAC taxis and Yutong buses — private CBU is still thin
Official: first 10 JAC E-J7 taxis and five 60 kW chargers in Arkadag; Yutong e-buses and e-taxis in Ashgabat/Arkadag. Early-2026 China PV exports to TM rose fast, but NEV CBU was still not a material slice.
Turkmenistan does not publish a monthly KAU-style dealer table. What is on the record:
- Arkadag, 2023 (turkmenistan.gov.tm / Business Turkmenistan): the first batch of 10 JAC E-J7 electric taxis and five 60 kW chargers, supplied by official distributor Paýhas Merkezi for the Türkmenawtoulaglary agency.
- Ashgabat, November 2025 (turkmenistan.gov.tm, Türkmentel forum): the Ministry of Automobile Transport said it had purchased about 700 buses and a batch of Yutong electric buses, now running in Ashgabat and Arkadag, plus electric vehicles for taxi services (QR fare / Ynamly taksi).
- China export desks (ThinkerCar, Jan–Feb 2026): passenger-vehicle exports to Turkmenistan were among the fastest-growing of the five Central Asian markets (+74.4% y/y in that two-month window). The same note says NEV shipments from China to TM were still not material in that print — unlike Uzbekistan.
Do not invent a 2026 private BYD volume that the customs service has not printed. Ashgabat retail remains small, licensed, and fleet-led.
Desk takeaway: TM demand that can be sourced in public is city EV fleets (JAC / Yutong) plus a rising ICE/CBU envelope from China. Keep quotes on licensed importer paper, not a grey Almaty VIN.
